Help! Name our Game
I have definitely been struggling to name our sci-fi platformer for the past several months. I don’t want to give too much away story or gameplay wise, but we certainly could use some brainstorming and thoughts to help us focus on a good game title.

There’s an excellent description of the core gameplay mechanics in this post to get you started, but the basic plot setup is there are 2 large galactic factions/governments currently at peace, but on the brink of war. One is a heavily military focused faction inspired by the Roman Empire with similar ranks and social structure. The other faction is the more democratic, but slower acting conglomerate of Terran species – think space UN. The first episode will focus on a defector of the Roman military faction.

The back story and space setting had us brainstorming words for space: galactic, interplanetary, space, stellar, nova, galaxy, nebula, etc. We thought of combining this space descriptor with Quest, Warfare and somehow started leaning towards “the brink of war” and using “Brink” as one of the key words in the title. Eventually this whole discussion fizzled and Zak and I came back to the military faction’s obsession with selective breeding and genetics. We thought the title ‘Helix’ sounded cool, but soon found a few other games on the internet named Helix. This has lead us to calling the game ‘Project: Helix’ instead of Project: K internally now.

So that’s where we are title wise…. nowhere! I would love to hear title ideas. Please share your thoughts and help us!

“Silent Conflict”
Bonus feature: Does not exist as the title of a current game, and Google says the next closest thing is a very old movie.

No there isn’t. Unless you meant the word “platformer”.
Spacey Kong?
Splice Invaders?
Double Helios?
Stellar Standoff?
Seriously, more details about the tone of the game and the actual gameplay would help, including whose side the player is on.

Sorry, I forgot to insert the link to the post where a lot of the game mechanics are explained. Check that out for more info on the actual gameplay.
The player defects to from the military-type faction to the other more democratic interstellar “UN”. I’m going to think about the tone for awhile.

Well, I can’t come up with anything specific right now, but seeing as you’re emulating parts of games such as Metroid and Halo, why not a one-word name?
