Minima Time – The Flash Difference
Minima Time is the first time I’ve ever really done anything with Flash. The game is doing decent on portals and I hope that eventually I’ll earn enough in the advertising to pay for the 5 days I dedicated to making the game. Here’s some of my thoughts looking back on releasing this flash game:
- There hasn’t been a HUGE increase in website traffic, but there has been a significant increase in traffic immediately following the game (about 30%-40%). It’s slowing down of course.
- Flash is great for getting your game played (Game has been played over 18,000 times in ~6 days)
- Flash is great for getting quick feedback on your game – people write reviews and vote on the major portals pretty immediately. Considering Minima Time took 5 days, I’ve found the reviews to be great. I particularly liked this review.
- Ad Revenue is a plus – but don’t expect it to fund development.
The above impressions have led me to believe that Flash is excellent for prototyping gameplay. With minimal marketing effort you can get a lot of people to play your game and make a snap judgement on it. If you find a game getting thousands and thousands of impressions and scoring well on the portals, then you probably have a game that you’ll want to take to a downloadable/full version. This little test has certainly peaked my interest in flash a little more. Perhaps I should look into some of the other APIs and things out there such as Kongregate, MochiCoins, etc.
Enough Talk! Why not just play the game: Minima Time
