Which HUD is better?

So above is a screenshot of Shadow Complex, please note the white overlay and slightly transparent HUD for health, weapon selected, ammo, etc. I like the simplicity and clean look of Shadow Complex’s HUD, but I am also drawn to the old school style HUD that sits at the top of the screen a la Metroid, Megaman, etc. Here’s a shot of Super Metroid’s HUD:
So which do you like more? Please chime in…. I’m easily influenced.

Well it all depends on the look of the game, I suppose. Both of those HUDs fit very will with their respective games. One thing I dislike about the Metroid HUD is that it takes up a lot of screenspace, but on the other hand today’s average screen resolution is so high that you could still go for it without it taking too much screenspace away.
Some kind of combo would be nice too, perhaps.

I prefer the Shadow Complex styled hud. Take a look at the current Metroid Prime series and their hud

I think the Super Metroid HUD may be outdated. As an FYI, The game’s resolution will be 1024×768. Currently we’ve just been using the top 64 pixels of the screen to work on our HUD. I just did this out of ease though and I’m not sure we’ll have enough stuff to even fill up a whole bar at the top.

I like the faded one best, but the metroid style would look better than the one on the screenshot once you have it on the actual game and the colors matched up better..
Will the game run the same with either one..?

Game will run the same with either HUD. It’s a completely aesthetic thing.
